Prof. Piotr Major, MD
“Why is the surgical treatment of obesity a good idea?”
Professor Piotr Major is a representative of the young generation of ambitious surgeons and scientists. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University, Collegium Medicum in Krakow and since his studies he has been associated with the 2nd Department of General Surgery of the Jagiellonian University and the University Hospital in Krakow. He has specialization in general surgery and oncological surgery. He specializes in surgical treatment of obesity and minimally invasive gastrointestinal oncological surgery. He gained his experience by taking part in trainings in reputable surgical centers in Poland and abroad min:
- The Department of Bariatric Surgery at Homerton University Hospital in London (2016),
- The Center of Obesity Surgery in the AZ Sint-Jan Hospital in Belgium (2018, 2022),
- Hospital Universitario Bellvitge in Barcelona (2018).
In 2017 he obtained the elite European specialty diploma in general surgery (F.E.B.S. – Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery).
He has been taking care of obesity patients for more than 10 years as a surgeon. He is one of the pioneers of surgical treatment of obesity in Malopolska, currently acting as a coordinator of the Obesity Surgical Center at University Hospital in Krakow.
Prof. Piotr Major is one of the initiators of the Bariatric Patients Association CHLO, and is involved in the organization’s daily activities, where he promotes surgical methods of treating obesity through education. Member of teamCHLO.
