A few words about professor Tarnowski’s achievements and scientific output.

Physician, surgeon, academic teacher, research and teaching staff. After graduation he started to work at the Department of General Surgery of the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education in Warsaw, where he has been working until today as the Head of the Department. He created from scratch a center dealing with complex treatment of patients with obesity as well as surgical treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Currently the department is participating in the KOS-BAR program, i.e. Comprehensive Specialist-Bariatric Care

V-ce President of the Society of Polish Surgeons, member of the Presidium and Treasurer of the Society of Polish Surgeons, President of the Section of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery of TChP, past President of the Section of Video Surgery of the Society of Polish Surgeons; honorary member of the Section of ESWL of the Polish Urological Association; honorary member of the Videosurgery Section of the TChP; V-ce President of the Warsaw Division of the Polish Society of Gastroenterology, member of the Editorial Board of Videosurgery and other mini-invasive techniques; Editor-in-Chief and member of the Editorial Committee of the Polish Surgical Review.

The professor’s scientific output consists of over 190 publications in Polish and foreign journals. He is a member of many scientific societies, including: Society of Polish Surgeons (TChP); European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO).

He received numerous trainings in Poland and abroad: Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh (UK), IRCAD Strasbourg, France, Elancourt, France, among others.

Prof. Wiesław Tarnowski, MD has been training for many years in advanced laparoscopic surgeries with special emphasis on laparoscopic techniques in bariatric and metabolic surgery, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, as well as gastroesophageal reflux disease and diaphragmatic hiatal hernia.

In addition, he is a member of teamCHLO and actively participates in patient and physician education on surgical treatment of obesity.
